Best Tours in Lima, Peru

Hi, I am Octavio Urzua and my hobbie is to travel around the world to awesome places.
I have fall in love twice in my life, the first with my wife, the second with Macchu Picchu and Peru.
Here are some things that I like about Lima if you are planning a trip here.

Traffic in Lima
Be aware that traffic in Lima is as bad as Mexico City, so you´d better planify in advance,
what to do and what time to go, not to spend valuable time in the traffic jams.
At night after 8pm almost daily the circuit of magic water fountains is unbelievable.
However, the main attraction in Lima is their culinary experience.
Today, young people want to be cookers instead of any other profession.
For $20 you can eat and feel like a king.
For $10 you can eat pretty well and healthy too.

My favorite Restaurants
In order of preferences, my best restaurants are:
1. Pescados Capitales, besides the food, it is a marketing experience to notice every single detail. The owner tranformed all typical problems of restaurants into opportunities. Tripadvisor link

.2. Jose Antonio
Traditional Buffet with all peruvian tastes you can imagine. The place looks like 18th century village.

3. Tanta
Excellent desserts here from Astrid, the famous belgian´s wife of Gaston Acurio.

4. Pisco Sour 40 degree drink
Eventhough I dont drink at all, this is a cool to try a beer or a local drink stronger than tequila here:

5. Rosa Nautica: Seafood at the bay
It is in the sea. Better than food is the place itself as a sightseeing at day or night.Peru is the best place for vegetariants too, the have over 3,000 different potatoes
Be aware, if you go to Peru for business, people there rather talk about food all day long, and it is worth every minute.

Tour Activities for Kids

The hotel will recommend you some local activities and tours.

However, if you or your boys can speak some basic spanish it is okay to just take a taxi and go there. It is cheap, faster and secure, eventhough US embassy would not recommend it. Taxis are different than USA, because you need to negotiate every trip with the driver. If you are a local you will know if the rate if faire or not.

Take one historic downtown tour that includes:
Plaza Mayor and Cathedral, Monastery of Santo Domingo, Monasterio of San Francisco, and Museum Larco.
I would not recommend to go to Nazcar Lines Valley. Too far, too little to see from the ground, specially if you go to Cusco later. Unless you are a real fanatic. In Macchu Pichhu you see plenty more and much closer.

A tour guide in Cusco and Machu Picchu

Included in attach the local travel agency I used.
It is recommended by a Peruvian who lives there.
Including the andean train from Cusco to Machu Pichu.

Best Restaurants: Map, Incanto, Alma (or even try local food in the streets or the farmer`s market)

Kids of all age would love a Cusco Rafting level 5 which is not for cardiac people
Another adventour is the trekking trails of 4 days walking like an Inca Indian.

Best Gift Ever
Besides the typical art, you need to taste the local chocolates and pecanas.
Di Perugia is my favorite brand. With no exageration, they are even better than the best belgian or swiss chocolates.

Where to Stay
I recommend onw of the Casa Andina in Miraflores neighborhood or just AirBnN close to Plaza Kennedy, with easy access to restaurants and transportation.

Favelas (this is a reality tour)
Gamarra
Malambo
Rimac
La Victoria
