Affiliate Marketing Solution for B2B e-Commerce

Business-to-business (B2B) describes commerce transactions between businesses, such as between a manufacturer and a wholesaler, or between a wholesaler and a retailer. Contrasting terms are business-to-consumer (B2C) and business-to-government (B2G).

The volume of B2B transactions is much higher than the volume of B2C transactions. The primary reason for this is that in a typical supply chain there will be many B2B transactions involving subcomponent or raw materials, and only one B2C transaction, specifically sale of the finished product to the end customer. For example, an automobile manufacturer makes several B2B transactions such as buying tires, glass for windscreens, and rubber hoses for its vehicles. The final transaction, a finished vehicle sold to the consumer, is a single (B2C) transaction.

LinkShare Corporation, an affiliate marketing program provider for companies doing business on the Web, today announced its plans to launch B2B LinkShare, a new LinkShare affiliate network that will focus exclusively on the fast growing business-to-business segment. The network is scheduled to launch in late January and will complement LinkShare’s existing affiliate network, The LinkShare Network(TM). Consumer spending is the primary driver of business through links between Web merchants and affiliate Websites formed through The LinkShare Network. B2B LinkShare is designed specifically to serve the market in which the ultimate buyer is a business, rather than a consumer.

B2B LinkShare will provide vertical portals and other sites devoted to business-to-business e-commerce with a new, direct channel to the users of their goods and services. By partnering with affiliates that target similar industry segments, these merchants will gain access to a relevant customer base, one that will increase traffic and drive online sales. Because this partnership is performance-based, merchants compensate affiliates only when the desired outcome, such as a click-through or a purchase, is obtained, making this channel highly cost-effective for merchants in even the most specialized industries.

B2B LinkShare will also benefit current affiliates of The LinkShare Network that have a business-oriented user base, as they will have the option of becoming affiliates of the new network while keeping their same user names and passwords. Similarly, current merchants of The LinkShare Network that have a business-to-business component will also be able participate in B2B LinkShare.

TradeOut.com, a leading online marketplace for buying and selling business surplus, is slated to launch its affiliate program with B2B LinkShare in late January. LinkShare will enable TradeOut.com to partner with affiliates whose content is orientated towards any one of the dozens of categories it lists on its site. For example, TradeOut.com will be able to create a link that directs a user from an online home renovation magazine to the Building Supplies section of its site, exposing those merchants to a much broader audience of potential customers.
