The Rise of the Author In A Nutshell by Mark Joyner
Because of Decentralization (in various forms) and the shifting of Technology … the power of the publisher (unless it morphs into something else) is on the decline and the power of the Author is on the rise.
There is a phenomenon known as the Great Nexus that occurs when a large number of people have sufficient Knowledge, Means, and Will to accomplish something very specific (like publishing a Bestseller).
More Authors have the Knowledge, Will, and Means to Become a Print Bestseller now than any other time in history … thanks to something I call “Bestseller Technology”. Best Seller Technology is specific set of tools and techniques that drive books to the top of Best Seller lists.
The Great Nexus is occurring for bestseller technology, but we do not know how long it will remain open. Many things could happen to end it – for example the governments of the world could begin to regulate the Internet in such a way that the average person no longer has the means to pull this off.
Yet another window is closing for Authors – the decline of the eminence of the Print Bestseller. Right now a Print Bestselling Author has huge respect. However, in time a Print Author will have only the same level of respect that a “Golden Age” Radio Star has today. Radio Stars used to be Gods, but now they are barely significant (with only the rarest of exceptions like Garrison Keilor … but even he is not known in broad popular culture).
Employing these tactics has not only a residual effect of stimulating the sale of your book in the future, it also gives you a new-found level of respect and authority (which can be parlayed into personal gain on many levels), and gives you permanent bragging rights.
